Staff Development

For the past ten years, New View Publications, in conjunction with the International Association of Applied Control Theory (IAACT), has been providing workshops aimed at certifying people in applying the principles of Perceptual Control Theory.

These seminars are held annually in the winter at Hilton Head, South Carolina, and in the summer at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Additionally, seminars are undertaken by schools and school systems throughout the year. Some of these seminars are open to outside participation, while others are not. Often several schools and/or school systems arrange to sponsor seminars.

The certification process involves successfully completing the following:

(ACTI) Basic Intensive Seminar in Applied Control Theory, Basic Practicum, (ACT II) Advanced Intensive Seminar in Applied Control Theory, Advanced Practicum, and (ACT III) Certification Week. ACTs I, II, and Certification Week are each four-day courses that teach the theory and practice of Contol Theory. Upon completion of each four-day seminar, you must enroll in a practicum. The Basic and Advanced Practicum each require 30 hours of field work over a minimum of six months (work is done in consultation with a certified IAACT supervisor). At Certification Week, participants demonstrate their competencies through role play and a formal presentation of a practical application of Control Theory. In addition, an advanced seminar called The Loop: Practicum Supervision and Beyond is offered annually at Hilton Head, South Carolina, for those who want additional training and/or to become IAACT faculty members.

References can be provided to schools and districts interested in exploring the possibility of sponsoring our seminars.
