Concepts

Concepts and PracticesThe concepts and practices advocated by A Connected School are based on scientific research as well as on practical applications which have been undertaken in dozens of schools throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. To better help you navigate available resources, we have divided these into several general categories.

The science, which is known as Perceptual Control Theory, is being studied and advanced by a group known as the Control Systems Group. This group maintains a web site and sponsors an annual meeting each year in a different location. Relevant web sites and resources are listed in the science section of CSG's web site.

Staff development is undertaken through Connected School seminars and workshops. These workshops, which can lead to certification, are sponsored in several different ways. New View Publications, a publishing and training company, offers training in Applied Control Theory throughout the year. The company also works directly with school systems, Area Education Agencies, and other governmental and non-governmental organizations to provide training in Applied Control Theory. Most of this training is certified through the International Association for Applied Control Theory (IAACT), a non-profit, faculty-run organization.

IAACT sponsors two meetings each year at different locations. At these meetings, practitioners implementing Connected School concepts and practices in their schools share information and report on their experience.
